Clothing and PPE
For Health and Safety reasons, appropriate clothing must be worn at work placement. Guidance on clothing and jewellery is given in the student work placement handbook. It is requested that all students follow the expectations of their work placement in relation to this aspect.
ELC students may need PPE on work placements. This will be provided as required.
Work Placements
Note work placements may be delayed due to government guidance.
HNC Childhood Practice has an expected 60 day placement. This is normally two days per week with two blocks of 1 week placements included in the year.
NC in Early Education and Childcare : Normally 45 days placement with 1 block of 1 week on placement included in the year.
NPA in Playwork: Weekly placement activity expected from the end of B1 onwards. Can include settings such as Guides, Cubs, Brownies, and Rainbows.
All students on an ELC work experience placement require an enhanced PVG before being able to attend their work placement. The college staff will issue instructions on the completion of a PVG application at the start of the session.
Technician Information
Heather Sloan, our workplace coordinator will meet individually with every student who requires a work placement in an ELC setting (All HNC, NC, NPA, FA courses at both Dumfries and Stranraer Campus).
Heather will allocate a suitable work place setting after initial discussions with each student. She gathers workplace attendance records and supports the college staff, students and employers with aspects relating to student work placements.
