Eduroam

Wireless internet access is available to students, staff and visitors on both Dumfries and Stranraer campuses. Our secure wireless network service provides students and staff with authenticated access to our college network from their devices as well as allowing visitors secure access to the Interne via the eduroam (education roaming) service. This service is provided by the Janet network in the UK.

Troubleshooting?

If you have difficulties with the App, or have no internet on the device you’re trying to configure, please try the following manual setup instructions

Android

If you are using Android 11 or newer, please contact the Digital Services team to have the relevant certificates installed on your device.

  1. Click “Settings” then select “Wireless & Networks” and “WiFi settings”.
  2. If WiFi is not enabled, please enable it.
  3. Select “eduroam“.
  4. You may now be asked for a password to protect the credential storage on your device. This is a security setting for your device and not your WiFi password. Please enter a memorable password here to continue.
  5. For “EAP method” select “PEAP“.
  6. For “Phase 2 authentication” select “MSCHAPV2“.
  7. Set certificate to “Do Not Validate
  8. Enter your Identity as your student email address (eg 0123456@student.dumgal.ac.uk)
  9. Some devices may have an “Anonymous identity” field. Leave this blank.
  10. Enter your normal college password.
  11. Touch “Connect“.
  12. Your device should show “Obtaining IP address from eduroam…” then shortly after “Connected to eduroam”.
iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch)
  1. Go to your ‘Settings‘ app and select ‘Wi-Fi‘”.
  2. Select “eduroam“.
  3. Enter your student email address (eg 0123456@student.dumgal.ac.uk)
  4. Enter your normal college password.
  5. You will be prompted to accept a certificate. Touch “Accept” to trust this certificate.
  6. You will be returned to your device’s “Wi-Fi” screen.
  7. A tick beside “eduroam” should show that you are now connected to the secure wireless network.
Windows/MAC/Linux
  1. Select your wireless networking icon
  2. Choose “eduroam
  3. When prompted, enter your full college email address (eg 0123456@student.dumgal.ac.uk)
  4. Enter your normal college password
  5. Confirm these settings
  6. After a few seconds, you should now be connected to eduroam
